At Optimum Pediatric Services, we are proud to be a Georgia Pediatric Program (GAPP) provider, which allows us to serve medically fragile children in more than 30 counties across the state of Georgia. We recognize that families new to long-term pediatric care may not fully understand what the GAPP program entails and how it benefits kids in Georgia. In this blog, we’ll discuss what the program is and how to apply for it if your family has a medically fragile child in the state of Georgia.
What Is GAPP for Medically Fragile Children?
The Georgia Pediatric Program (GAPP) is a Medicaid program for children under the age of 21 who are considered medically fragile and need regular nursing care to assist them in development and day-to-day activities.
As a GAPP provider, our team at Optimum Pediatrics offers eligible families:
Personalized care for children under 21
Expertise in several complex medical conditions
Medication management and hygiene assistance
Assistance with implementing treatment plans
Parent and physician communication
How Does the Application Process for GAPP Work?
For families to receive services from a GAPP provider, like Optimum Pediatrics, they must qualify for Medicaid and apply for GAPP with the proper paperwork. GAPP usually makes a decision within 30 days of submitting the application. It’s important to remember that services are approved based on the child’s medical needs.
If a family does not qualify for Medicaid, then they can apply for the Katie Beckett Medicaid Program, which provides benefits to children under the age of 18 who qualify as disabled individuals. The Katie Beckett Medicaid Program permits the state to ignore family income so that a medically fragile child who requires an institutional level of care can qualify for Medicaid and receive care from an approved GAPP agency.
